President's Update: October 2021

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

What a challenging year we have had so far everyone, and the cricket season has come around again so fast. Forgive me I have been a little tardy with my reporting however I was holding out for some positive and concrete news.

Season Start Date

So without any further adeu I am happy to announce that we will be commencing play from the weekend of 30th October. This includes all junior grades competing in the BDJCA competition (U12s, U14s, U16s) through to all senior grades, including the Premier LJ Hooker League. Following from that date will be the commencement of all our grassroots junior programs - master blasters, U11s and of course our new and fantastic girls only programme. We will finalise dates for the grassroots programs and release them very shortly, so watch this space. We list major club events on our Facebook page and on our “What’s On” page on the website, so be sure to keep checking for new events at www.murwillumbahcricket.com/calendar

Committee

We have some new faces on our committee this season so I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Secretary Monica Brooks, our new Treasurer Fred Hughes, our new Junior Vice President Declan Brooks and our new facilities manager Brent McCloy. Welcome aboard and thank you for helping the Panthers flourish.

Thanks Steve Hosier

To all those who stepped out of their roles on the committee we thank you for all your help. Without our esteemed volunteers this wouldn’t be possible. I would like to make a special mention to Steve Hosier who has been our Junior Vice President for the last 6 years and has done a wonderful job in all things junior cricket for our club. Great innings mate, love your work. Steve is not totally lost to us however, he will still be gracing the fields of 3rd grade for the club this season!

Registrations Now Open

As our new season start date is upon us our registrations are open, so please jump online and get yourself and/or your children registered in preparation. For those that already have thanks for your support and welcome. You can press the register button on our website www.murwillumbahcricket.com which will take you to the Play Cricket website, or go direct to www.playcricket.com.au and search for Murwillumbah Cricket Club on that site to register.

Fee increases

We have made the tough decision to slightly increase fees this season across the board. Our previous fees weren’t quite covering our costs and it was needed to allow us to hire our great facilities and deliver the best cricket experience we can offer. Making our club a place for everyone to come and thrive through Cricket is our mantra and major goal. So thank you to all our members for your support. We have posted on Facebook how your fees are spent exactly across the season to run the club (and also included here). You’ll probably be surprised at the range of costs we have to cover to keep the club functioning. We trust you understand this decision. Remember for juniors you can use your NSW Active Kids vouchers to reduce the cost of registration. The club is also willing to offer flexible payment plans by arrangement if needed, please contact me if you'd like to discuss this option (0417 470 120).

Selection Policy

As a result of feedback in the end of season survey we have formalised our selection policy for senior grades, particularly for first and second grade. We believe this will improve the experience at our club for senior players wishing to play as high quality cricket as they can. I encourage you to go and check it out the new selection policy at www.murwillumbahcricket.com/selection-policy

Cricket Net Upgrade

I am also excited with our training net upgrade that has been ongoing over the last couple of months. It is moving along with Tweed Shire Council coming on board to help us finish this project. We now have the area completely concreted with a big shout out to a former member of our club Scott Grace, who provided the concreting services.

Till next time.

Yours in cricket,

Adam Housen

President, Murwillumbah Cricket Club.

A club for all to come and thrive through cricket.
