President's Update: March 2022

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are doing ok in what has been very trying times for our community, for some certainly more so than others. Speedy recovery to you all and i hope you are coping ok with the enormity of the flood situation in Murwillumbah and surrounds. Please find the following update in regards to the rest of the cricket season at Murwillumbah Cricket Club.

RESUMPTION OF CRICKET - SENIORS

First Grade - LJ Hooker Competition

This weekend's final round has been abondoned. Semi Finals will be held for the current top 4 teams next weekend. Gonnellabah have nominated Rabjones Oval at Murwillumbah as their semi-final home ground fixture versus Lennox Head next Saturday (19 March). This is a great indicator of the renowned quality of our number one cricket oval. We will have the upstairs bar open and the BBQ on to celebrate the occassion and hopefully lift spirits for anyone interested in coming along to watch two quality teams fight it out for a place in the Grand Final.

This also means it is the end of the season for the Murwillumbah first grade side who haven't made the top 4. Well fought lads in a tough season, here's to a more productive one next season!

Second Grade - Coastal League

This weekend's rounds have also been abondoned and the semi-finals will be staged Saturday 19 March with the current top 4 placed sides, Murwillumbah's season has finished here too.

Third Grade - Tweed District Competition

Regular season has finished for all sides, with the semi finals being staged tomorrow (Sat 12 March). No Murwillumbah sides will feature unfortunately, but they had a good time trying!

RESUMPTION OF CRICKET - JUNIORS

U14s & U12's - Ballina Competition

All Junior cricket in the Ballina competition is adandoned this weekend (12 March), finishing the regular season for all teams not in the top 4 on the ladder. The current top 4 teams move into the semi-finals on Saturday 19 March. Congratulations to our Murwillumbah Red team in the U14 competition who have finished second in the competition and will host third placed Tintenbar East Ballina. More details to come next week.

Junior Representative Cricket

Unfortunately all junior representative cricket has been abandoned for the rest of the season. This includes the U12, U14 and U16 interdistrict competitions for the Tweed, Ballina and Northern Rivers sides, and the FNC Cricket's Coast v Country games for the same age groups.

END OF SEASON PRESENTATIONS DATES SHIFTED

We will still have our end of season cricket presentation days and awards, but they will likely be delayed by a week, which we will confirm ASAP, still aiming for Murwillumbah Leagues Club as our venue.

- Senior Presentations - Saturday 26 March (TBC)

- Junior Presentations - Sunday 3 April (TBC)

Could all junior coaches please start getting their nominations through to me for:

- Leading batter (most runs),

- Leading bowler (most wickets),

- Spirit of Cricket award (team vote),

- Most Improved (coach decides).

For those interested in seeing where all the team and player stats are at for the season you can see them on the MyCricket app or on our website here: https://www.murwillumbahcricket.com/mycricket

Will keep you posted with more developments in due course.

That's it for now, stay well, stay safe, stay strong.

Yours in Cricket

Adam Housen | President
