President's Update: January 2021

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Panthers!

Hope you have all had a great festive season. I know I was glad to wave goodbye to 2020 and enjoyed celebrating the arrival of 2021 at our new sponsors venue, the Murwillumbah Leagues Club. Big shout out to the crew at the Leagues Club, the night was fantastic, what a success! Looking forward to the next one and many more.

Panthers First Grade knock off Hornets

Now on to the cricket! First week back saw an amazing day out for our First Xl beating reigning premiers’ Cudgen Hornets convincingly. Bowling them out for 134 from 30 overs and passing their score 4 wickets down in the 31st over. So good it even made the 9news! A notable mention for Kyle Leighton taking 5 for 24 off 8 overs with ball and then belting 41 off 29 with the bat. Overall, it was a massive day for the boys and the club, beating the leading team in the LJ Hooker competition. Such a good reward for all the hard work that has been put in over the past couple of seasons, great work everyone, keep it up!!

Twilight Tonk 6.0

The club is gearing up for the Twilight Tonk 6.0! There are 8 teams competing again this season with 2 new teams entering the competition, its gearing up to be another cracker. Will Hills Hoist, the defending champs and the only team to win the Tonk trophy twice, be under threat from the new recruits? To see all the action get down to the club this Wednesday the 13th of January around 5:30pm, grab a snag and an icy cold refreshment and enjoy the fun and games. The Twilight Tonk runs every Wednesday until the finals on 24 February.

Club training

With Senior cricket under way again there is training also happening Wednesdays from 4:30pm - everyone is welcome. Junior training will formally be recommencing on Wednesday the 27th of January with the junior season kicking back off on Saturday the 30th of January.

Super 8s Carnival

TDJCA and Murwillumbah Panthers will be hosting the annual Tweed District Super 8’s Carnival over the next few Sundays with the U12s being the first to get amongst the action this Sunday the 17th of January, then the U14s are next on the 31st of January and the U16s rounding it out on the 14th of February. These days are always fun for everyone and its a great revenue raiser for the club. If your child is playing or if you just want to come down and help out we need a host of helpers from canteen duties through to umpiring. If so, please register your interest with myself to be a part of what is a great day for junior cricket in the Tweed (0417 470 120). Games will commence at 8:30am and continue through to approximately 3pm depending on the number of teams.

Junior representative Panthers

I have been looking through the club stats in the break and is great to see such talent amongst our great club!! We are certainly coming together and thriving through cricket. Some notable mentions for those players selected for representative duties this season with Tweed and/or the Far North Coast underage teams – Jacques Peenz, Mitchell Grossman, Rishab Lashand, Kwinn Wolf, Hugo Portus, Billy Smith, Bailey Newell and George Fisher. Well done all and good luck for your remaining rep games.
