President's Update - September 2025

Dear Members, Supporters and Friends,

The new season is nearly here, and I’m excited to share some key updates as we continue to build momentum at Murwillumbah Cricket Club.

Registrations Now Open

Registrations for both Junior and Senior Cricket are now officially open. Whether you’re returning for another season or picking up a bat for the very first time, we’d love to see you join us. Signing up early helps us organise teams, so please don’t delay — get on board and be part of what’s shaping up to be a fantastic season.

Junior Training & Come and Try Days

Our Junior Training and Come and Try Days kick off next week, and they’re the perfect opportunity for kids and families to get involved, have fun, and experience the club.

Come and Try Day Schedule:

• Monday 8th September – 3:30pm to 5:00pm

• Friday 12th September – 3:30pm to 5:00pm

• Wednesday 17th September – 3:30pm to 5:00pm

We’ll be cooking up a sausage sizzle and have poppers for the kids, so come on down, bring your mates, and enjoy some cricket in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Welcoming Our Junior Coaches

A big thank you and warm welcome to our Junior Coaches for this season:

• U11s – James McIvar

• U12s – Jamie Jones

• U14s – Jacques Peenz

We are still on the lookout for a coach for our U16s, so if you or someone you know might be interested, please reach out. To James, Jamie, and Jacques — we appreciate you stepping up and helping guide our juniors. It should be a fantastic season ahead.

Senior Cricket – Back in LJ Hooker League

After much deliberation and a challenging process with Far North Coast Cricket and CNSW, I can confirm that Murwillumbah will remain in the LJ Hooker League for this season.

It’s become clear that if we were to give up our spot, it would be extremely difficult to get it back — something we believe would not serve the long-term future of the club. So, we’ll be fielding a First Grade team again this season. Our focus is simple: get in, give it our best, and treat this as an opportunity to keep developing our young players while building a stronger club for the future.

• Saturday 13th September – 3:00pm to 5:00pm

• Saturday 20th September – Intra-club Match (Time TBC)

New Roles & Acknowledgements

I’d also like to acknowledge some new roles within the club:

• Steve Hosier – PlayHQ Coordinator

• Stevie Fuller – Canteen Manager

Thank you both for putting your hands up to support the club in these important positions.

Finally, a huge thank you to the entire committee for the work you’ve already put in during the off-season. Your efforts behind the scenes are what make all of this possible, and I’m truly grateful.

The season is shaping up to be an exciting one, and I’m looking forward to seeing our juniors take the field, our seniors step up, and our community come together.

Let’s make this season a memorable one.

Warm regards,

Pete Comerford

President
