Presidents Update: February 2022

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

Hi All,

It’s well about time I gave you all an update on the current state of play across the club. I have been quite slack this season with my Presidents updates and for that I apologise. With our business expanding in a time when things are quite tricky to negotiate that led to me missing a few things here and there.

Murwillumbah's Junior Rep Players

Well I’m back on track now and there has been quite a few interruptions this season which is rather frustrating to say the least. However it certainly hasn’t stopped our junior players and members from pushing on and achieving some pretty good standards across all platforms this season. With two of our girls being selected in the Far North Coast girls team, six boys in Far North Coast boys academy and rep teams, plenty of kids in our entry level Woolworths Blaster programs and two teams in each grade from 11s to 14s, we have some great junior depth and talent coming through. I would like to congratulate everyone on coming together to thrive through cricket. Three of our Far North Coast junior rep players are pictured below - Ruby Nix, Sophie Buckley and Bailey Newell, and our other junior rep players in Far North Coast teams this season have been Rishab Lashand, Darcy Irby, Hugo Portus, Tom O'Brien and Billy Smith.

First Grade

Our Senior ranks are doing it tough this season with regulation changes, bad weather and many absentees due to the Rona. It’s been tough to get consistency but I will give a shout out to all our players - your spirits are still high and you don’t give up. We have some young players representing the club in first grade at the moment and they are still learning their craft, but we know they have what it takes to become established and successful first graders. Let’s be persistent Panthers and keep working hard. With persistency, hard work and attention to detail things will change and the wins will be around the corner, you have the club's full support, go hard and good luck.

Club Appreciation - Dave Reading

I'd like to recognise Dave Reading and his Tweed groundstaff for preparing our grounds during a tough wet summer - check out the belter pictured below on Rabjones Oval last month - they really do a great job with our grounds at Murwillumbah, this year especially in trying conditions. Dave also is on the committee and puts Old Boys Day and the Twilight Tonk together each year. Awesome work Dave, thank you. A true living legend of the club!

Club Appreciation - Declan Brooks

To junior vice president Declan Brooks, for his tireless work in the background helping make things happen around the club with Junior and Master Blasters each week, the Tweed super 8's, Twilight Tonk and his general administration duties (i'm sure i've missed something!!?). A massive thank you for your excellent contributions Declan, most appreciated, couldn't do it without you.

If you'd like to see someone recognised for their work around the cricket club please let me know on murbahpanthers@gmail.com or on 0417 470 120.

February Action

Coming up this month we have our annual Old Boys Day social get together (Sat Feb 12 at the clubhouse with our first grade side taking on South Tweed from 1pm), our 12s and 14s juniors are trialling for Tweed inter-district representative teams and Twilight Tonk 7.0 is in full swing. We are also hosting the Tweed Association Super 8's competitions for 12's 14s and 16s age groups (the U12s are this Sunday Feb 13). We are also working away in the background with grant applications too so we hope there will also be some exciting news in regards to completion of the practice nets, plus a few other things in the coming weeks! Watch this space, hopefully some positive news to come.

Old Boys Day

Is on this Saturday (Feb 12) from 2pm at the clubhouse. This is a celebration of the history, the players, volunteers and supporters of the club. All are welcome to come along, have a drink, share a memory and watch Murwillumbah first grade play South Tweed Banora Colts on Rabjones Oval. Light catering provided. Contact Dave Reading if you would like any further information (his contact info is in the pic below).

The committee is holding a meeting this week to organise presentation dates and a date for our yearly AGM. We will discuss this years survey and our progress against our strategic plan goals which you can suss out here: https://www.murwillumbahcricket.com/ourplan

Keep an eye on our Facepage page and our What's On page on this website for dates as they are released.

Please let's prey for no more rain and lots more cricket. Play safe, have fun and keep an eye out for my next report.

Till then

Yours in cricket

Adam Housen

President
